1) Holly Leaf Man

What you will need:

  • Green, red, white and brown construction paper
  • Scissors
  • Buttons(optional)
  • Marker
  • Glue

How to make a holly leaf man

  1. Depending on your child’s abilities you may have to draw the holly leafs, head and stem .
  2. Have your child glue the holly leaves, head and stem to a piece of paper in the shape of a person.
  3. Have your child draw a face on their holly leaf man.

2) The Grinch

What you will need:

  • Red, green, blue,black and white construction paper.
  • Cotton balls
  • Glue
  • Scissors

How to make The Grinch

  • Depending on your child’s ability you will either have to draw the Grinch head, hat and eyes or cut them out for them.
  • Have your child glue the pieces together and glue the cotton balls on the paper as the mouth. 
  • Glue a cotton ball to the top of the hat.

3) Salt Dough Ornaments

What you need:

  • 1 cup flour
  • 1/2 cup salt
  • 1/2 cup water
  • Rolling Pin
  • Cookie Sheet
  • Cookie Cutters
  • Paint
  • Glitter
  • Ribbon
  • Hot glue gun

How to make salt dough

  1. Preheat oven 200°
  2. Mix flour, salt, water until dough is formed.
  3. Knead dough on a floured surface until mixture is elastic. Make sure it isn’t sticky because it will cause the dough to crack during baking. 
  4. Roll out dough to be about 1/4” thick on a floured surface.
  5. Use the cookie cutters to cut out ornaments and place on a non-greased cookie sheet (we used a piece of parchment paper to bake on)
  6. Bake for 30-45 minutes (all the recipes called for 2hour+ baking but we found they were fully hardened within the 30-45 minute time.
  7. Let cool and paint!
  8. Hot glue a ribbon loop to the back as a hanger!



4) Handprint Tree Ornament

What you will need:

  • Green construction paper
  • White, brown and other colors of choice paint
  • Ribbon
  • Hole puncher or glue

How to make a handprint tree ornament:

  1. Using the white paint, paint your child’s hand white and stamp it on the green paper.  Let it dry.
  2. Using multiple colors add thumbprint ornaments on the tree.
  3. Add a star to the top and a trunk to the bottom
  4. Glue the ribbon or punch a hole and tie the ribbon onto the ornament.

5) Paper and Pipe Cleaner Wreath ornament

What you will need:

  • White {or green}  construction Paper
  • Red and Green pipe cleaners
  • Sequins
  • Markers
  • Hole puncher

How to make it:

  1. Cut a ‘doughnut’ shape in the paper
  2. Using the hole punch, punch several holes into the circle
  3. Have your child weave the green pipe cleaner through the punched holes
  4. Help your child tie a bow with the red pipe cleaner
  5. Decorate with markers and sequins.

6)  Photo ornament

What you will need:

  • Picture of your child (dressed in festive gear makes it even better)
  • Construction paper
  • Glitter glue (or glitter and glue, sequins, markers, etc to decorate
  • Yarn or Ribbon
  • Glue
  • Hole Puncher (optional)

How to make it:

  1. Cut out your child’s picture and glue it onto a piece of construction paper.
  2. Cut the construction paper to size
  3. Punch a hole in the paper and attach the yarn or ribbon
  4. Have you child decorate around their picture.
  5. Do this every year to see how much your child has grown

7) Handprint Christmas Tree

What you will need

  • Green, red, brown and yellow construction paper
  • Scissors
  • Glue
  • Sequins, glitter, pom-poms, etc for decorations

How to make it:

  1. Trace your child’s hand on the green paper
  2. Cut out 10 copies of your child’s hand
  3. Cut out a star with the yellow paper to put on top of the tree
  4. Cut out the stem from the brown paper
  5. Glue down the hand prints starting with 4 at the bottom and layer them up to the top
  6. Add the star and the stem
  7. Have you child decorate the tree as they wish

8) Popsicle Reindeer

What you need:

  • Popsicle sticks
  • Brown markers
  • Googly eyes
  • Red pom-pom
  • Glue
  • Ribbon
  • Brown pipe cleaners

How to make it

  1. Color the popsicle sticks brown
  2. Glue 2 popsicles in a ‘V’ shape
  3. Glue one popsicle long ways on the ‘V’
  4. Glue the eyes at the cross of the popsicle sticks
  5. Glue the pom-pom to the bottom of the ‘V’
  6. Using the pipe cleaners attach to the top of the ‘V’ to use as an hanger
  7. Add a ribbon bow for embellishment

9)  Doily Santa

What you need:

  • Red and white or cream construction paper
  • 2 small doilies
  • Red and white pom-poms
  • Googly eyes
  • Pipe cleaner
  • Markers
  • Glue

How to:

  1. Cut a triangle from the red construction paper just a little bigger than the doilies
  2. Cut a circle from the white construction paper, smaller than the doilies
  3. Glue the circle to the doily and make the face
  4. Make the beard with another doily
  5. Add the white pom-pom to the top and attach a pipe cleaner hanger

10) Handprint Wreath

What you need:

  • Green paper
  • Ribbon
  • Glue
  • Sequins, glitter, etc {optional for decoration}

How to:

  1. Trace your child’s handprint on the green paper
  2. Cut out 10 handprints
  3. Align and glue together like a wreath
  4. Glue the ribbon on
  5. Let your child decorate the wreath with sequins, glitter, etc

11) Popsicle Stick Angel

What you need:

  • Popsicle sticks
  • Gold pipe cleaners
  • Googly eyes
  • Skin color paper
  • Gold ribbon

How to:

  1. Glue two popsicle shapes to make a ‘t’
  2. Cut a circle from the paper
  3. Glue the eyes on and draw the nose/mouth
  4. Glue to the top of the ‘t’
  5. Make a halo from the pipe cleaner and glue it to the head
  6. Make the wings with ribbon and pipe cleaners
  7. Add ribbon below the cross of the popsicle sticks

12) Handprint reindeer

What you need:

  • Brown paper
  • Pipe cleaners
  • Red pom-poms
  • Googly eyes
  • Glue
  • Bell (optional)

How to:

  1. Trace your child’s hand on the brown paper
  2. Cut out the hand
  3. Make antlers from pipe cleaners
  4. Add a collar from a pipe cleaner and bell
  5. Googly eyes and red pom-pom complete the reindeer!

13) Thumbprint Christmas Tree

What you need:

  • Green and red stamp pads or paint
  • Yellow, brown, and white construction paper
  • Scissors
  • Glue

How to:

  1. Using the stamp pads or a small amount of paint dip your child’s thumb and use as a stamp in a triangle shape.
  2. If you use paint, let dry before you add the thumbprint ornaments
  3. Cut out a star from the yellow paper and glue it to the top
  4. Cut out a stump from the brown paper and glue it to the tree

14) Reindeer Ornament

What you need:

  • Red cardstock or construction paper
  • Picture of your child wearing antlers {or make them from construction paper or use the next craft}
  • Ribbon
  • Glue
  • Scissors

How To:

  1. Cut an ornament shape {or circle} from the red construction paper 
  2. Glue your child’s picture on the ornament shape
  3. Add the ribbon and hang on the tree

15)  Reindeer hat, Rudolf nose

What you need:

  • Brown construction paper
  • Glue {Hot glue works best for this craft, only adults should use hot glue}
  • Red felt or construction paper
  • Tape

How to:

  1. Cut 2 strips about 2 inches wide across the long side of the paper
  2. Glue the strips together to make one long strip
  3. Measure around your child’s head and glue there to make the headband
  4. Trace your child’s hand on the brown paper
  5. Cut out 2 hand prints and glue them onto the headband as the antlers
  6. Cut a circle from the paper or felt and then put a piece of tape on the back to stick to their nose.

16) Reindeer Paper Bag Puppet

What you need:

  • Brown paper bag
  • Brown, white, and red paper
  • Pipe cleaner
  • Bell

How to:

  1. Trace your child’s hand on the brown paper and cut out 2 handprints
  2. Cut out circles from the white paper and draw the black dots for the eyes and glue to the bag
  3. Cut our a circle from the red paper for the nose
  4. Glue the pipe cleaner with the bell on as the collar

17) Gingerbread Man

What you need:

  • Brown paper
  • Circle stickers {or pieces of construction paper}
  • Hole protectors {you can draw the eyes and mouth on too}
  • Ric-Rac or pieces of paper

How To:

  1. Cut a gingerbread man shape out of the brown paper
  2. Using the other pieces, help your child decorate their gingerbread man

18)  Paper Plate Snowman

What you need:

  • Paper Plate
  • Red Construction Paper
  • Cotton balls
  • Crayons

How to:

  1. Cut a triangle from the red construction paper and glue to the paper plate
  2. Glue cotton balls on as the beard and the fluffy end of the hat
  3. Draw a face on the paper plate
