Summer Crafts for Kids: Week 8 Animals

This week we are focusing on animals, and all types of animals.  We encourage you to visit the zoo, learn about animals local to your area and make fun crafts like these.  We made some of our favorite animals but you can use the same concepts to make your favorites. 

Handprint Horse:

  • Brown Paint1Need to do (44)
  • Black marker
  • Black Yarn
  • Green crayon or marker
  • One sheet of paper: Your choice of color
  1. Paint your child’s hand brown and stamp it onto a piece of paper.
  2. Let it dry
  3. Cut 3-4 strips of yarn and glue it as the tail.
  4. Using the black marker draw a mane, hooves and a face.
  5. Add grass to the bottom of the paper.


Bubble wrap Gecko

  • Gecko coloring sheet
  • Paint in colors of choice (think blues, greens, etc) photo 5
  • Bubble wrap
  • A piece of scrap paper
  • A piece of paper, color of choice.
  1. Print out the Gecko coloring sheet
  2. Cut out the gecko (parents will have to help with this)
  3. Lay the gecko on a scrap piece of paper
  4. Paint the bubble wrap with the paint and use as a stamp onto the gecko.
  5. After the paint dries glue the gecko to another sheet of clean paper


Paper Plate Elephantphoto (6)

What you will need:

  • Paper Plate
  • Gray paint
  • Gray construction paper

How to make it:

  1. Paint the paper plate gray.
  2. Cut out an ear, trunk, legs and a tail from the construction paper.
  3. Let you child glue the pieces to the plate {they can be creative with this}
  4. Draw an eye on the elephant


Brown Paper Bag Bearphoto 4 (1)

  • This printable from ABC teach
  • Brown paper bag
  • Crayons or markers
  • Glue
  1. Print out and color the bear template
  2. Cut out the pieces (your child can practice using scissors, make sure they are the toddler ones)
  3. Glue to the paper bag



Handprint Giraffephoto 2 (2)

  • Yellow/orange paint
  • Brown paint
  • Black paint (or a sharpie)
  • White construction or cardstock paper

How to make the handprint giraffe

  1. Paint your child’s hand with the orange/yellow paint.
  2. Place their handprint on the paper.
  3. Wash their hands
  4. Paint their pointer finger with the brown paint.
  5. With their pointer finger make the spots on the giraffe.
  6. Make an eye with the black paint or the sharpie
