Summer is almost here!!! I cant believe how quickly this year is flying by! We are always looking for fun things to do over the summer to keep busy, so I have decided to share what we find with all of you!

**Movie tip: The free and dollar movies are a great way to test to see if your child is ready for the movies! Also if you have several little ones get a bucket of popcorn and ask for bowls, the bucket is refillable and you each child will have their own bowl!

  • Charleston County Public Library’s Reading Program will encourage reading with fun rewards, learn more about Every Hero has a Story!

  • The Children’s Museum of the Lowcountry – 25 Ann Street, Downtown. Open Tuesday – Saturday 9am-5pm and Sunday 12pm-5pm.  Special programs, summer camps, indoor play.  Admission is $8/person plus parking.  There are metered parking spots along King, Ann and John Street as well as 2 lots on Ann Street.
    • Tip: Afternoon’s are less busy so head downtown for lunch then to CML! The annual passes will save you money! 
  • SC Aquarium – 100 Aquarium Wharf, Downtown.  Open daily 9am-5pm.  Prices vary based on regular admission and 4D theater.  Adults (13 and up) $24.95-29.95; children (3-12) $17.95-$22.95; 2 and under are free. Metered parking and garage in front of aquarium
    • Tip: It is totally worth the membership – get the family plus and you can always take family or friends! 
  • American LaFrance Fire Museum – 4975 Centre Pointe Dr. North Charleston.  Monday through Saturday 10am-5pm and Sunday 1pm-5pm. General admission $6, children 12 and under are free with paying adult. Free parking
  • Monkey Joe’s – 4952 Centre Point Drive North Charleston. Monday-Thursday 10am-7pm; Friday and Saturday 10am-8pm; Sunday 11am-7pm. Pricing Monday through Friday $9.99/child; Saturday and Sunday $11.99/child.  Adults are free. Free parking.
  • GloZone – Indoor Lazer Tag, Put-Put and more! 5900 Rivers Avenue North Charleston, SC. Monday-Thursday is currently reservations only but will resume hours for summer.  Friday 4pm-10pm; Saturday 12pm-10pm; Sunday 12pm-9pm.  Lazer Tag $7/per person per game.  Glo Golf $3/per person.
    • Tip: This facility is better for children over 7, the LazerTag facility is dark and there will be lots of running.

    • 3000 fossils, from a megladon to fish!
    • Tip: We are planning a trip next week but based on our research it looks like its best for older children
  • Old Exchange Building and Provost Dungeon – 122 East Bay Street, Downtown Charleston.  Open daily from 9am-5pm

  • Visit the Hunley – 1250 Supply Street (on the old Charleston Navy Base)

Parks – We love this list from Charleston Parks Conservancy! You can find all the parks as well as if they have bathrooms, water fountains, free wifi, etc!

**Tip- When heading to the beach we always think ahead and go to the county park.  You dont have to worry about finding a parking space, there are bathrooms and showers as well! We pack a lunch and will often get ice cream on our way out! 

Outdoor Play 

  • Edisto Island Serpentarium 1374 Hwy 174, Edisto.  Adults $14.95; Kids 4-12 $10.95; 3 and under are free! Open Monday-Saturday 10-6.

    • Daily alligator feeds and other learning lectures!

    • Tip: This is a day trip for sure, it’s almost out to Edisto and restaurants are limited, so pack a lunch! 
  • Magnolia Plantations and Gardens! 3550 Ashley River Road, Charleston. Adults $15; Kids $10; Under 6 are free! Additional charges for other tours and attractions
    • Maze
    • Petting zoo (dear, turkeys, chickens and other local animals)
    • The Conservatory (semi-tropical plants)
    • Peacock Cafe – Enjoy some lunch
    • Tip – Wear tennis shoes, pack a lunch or enjoy food from the cafe, bring lots of water and bug spray! Don’t forget quarters for feed for the petting zoo! 
  • Charles Towne Landing -1500 Old Towne Rd, Charleston. $10/adult; $6/kids; under 5 are free.  Open daily from 9am-5pm

    • Tip – there is lots of walking and stairs, wear appropriate shoes and wear your babies.  Don’t forget plenty of water and sunscreen

    • Tip – there are lots of narrow stairs and walkways, appropriate for children who can navigate these areas easily.  Wear tennis shoes and be prepared for small spaces

    • They have an awesome deal running this summer where you pay monthly! Check out all the details!
    • Tip: this isn’t the best choice if your child is afraid of heights.  Bring plenty of water and wear sunscreen! Best to wear clothes/shoes appropriate for the gym. 
  • Gateway Walk – Free
    • Begins at the gates of St John’s Lutheran Church on Archdale St.
    • Walk through gardens and cemeteries
    • Find the map here.
  • Angel Oak Tree  3688 Angel Oak Rd, Johns Island. Free
    • Visit this giant Oak Tree and take in its beauty.
    • Tip – There isn’t enough to do for the whole day so plan to go to Kiawah or the Johns Island Library while you are there! 
  • Bull’s Bay: The ferry departs from Garris Landing  498 Bulls Island Road
    Awendaw.  $40 for adults and $20 for 12 and under.
    • Take the ferry to a barrier island, explore the beach 16 miles of trails and nature!
    • Arrive 30 minutes before departure time to walk to the end of the pier from the parking area
    • Make sure to check out Boneyard Beach while you are there!
    • Sunscreen and water is available for purchase on the Ferry
    • Tip: Pack a lunch, plenty of sunscreen, bug spray and water! Wearing tennis shoes is recommended but you will take them off for the beach. Don’t forget a change of clothes for the ride home.  
  • Hike the Palmetto Trail
    • The trail runs the length of SC but starts right in Awendaw.
  • Cypress Gardens 3030 Cypress Gardens Rd, Moncks Corner 29461
    • Open daily 9am-5pm, Adults $10, Seniors $9, Children 6-12 $5, Under 5 FREE!
    • Free parking
